Welcome to Tanami Regional Council
Welcome to the Tiwi Islands, where the unique Tiwi culture thrives. Established in 2008, we serve a population of 2,348 across 7,950 km² of the Tiwi Islands.
Our Role
Council provides essential services and facilities including:
- Roads, tracks, and transport infrastructure
- Waste collection and environmental services
- Community facilities and recreational spaces
- Libraries and cultural programs
- Planning and development services
- Community programs and events
- Support for Tiwi cultural heritage
Mayor Bernard Tipiloura
The Council is led by Mayor Bernard Tipiloura, who represents the interests of our Tanami community and works with councillors to make decisions on behalf of residents.
Council Elections
Council elections are held every four years. The next election is scheduled for 2028. All residents are encouraged to participate in choosing who represents them.
Council Meetings
Council meetings are held regularly at Munupi Arts Centre. All meetings are open to the public.
